Anaiah and Junko took the bus up from NYC for the holiday weekend. Shefali made my family birthday cake recipe: hot milk sponge cake with chocolate icing following my grandmothers famously hard to interpret recipe.
I considered having a larger group for my birthday or going out somewhere but honestly, the evening was perfect and I’m so glad I chose to have things the way I did.
I had some mixed feeling about turning twenty five. Quarter century, quarter life (hopefully). It feels like a big milestone.
I think I’ve been worrying that I’m behind somehow or that for the last few years I haven’t been doing enough living, growing, changing, advancing.

This birthday felt special. Not because of my age but because of the people who came to celebrate with me. I felt so lucky to have this little community of friends!
Shefali got invited to DJ someone else’s house party the next night, the actual night of my birthday.
The party turned out to include a birthday celebration for some other people, so really I got two parties!

Happy birthday to me! Do you like my clip on earrings?
It made me realize how long it has taken me to get to this point and that I don’t want to rush to move on from it. Things have been changing for me and I have been growing, I just couldn’t see it right away. I want to enjoy where I’m at now for a little while instead of rushing myself to keep moving on to something and somewhere new.
This summer and fall will be super busy for me and I'll probably be travelling more often than not. I'd like to try sharing again here so check back in when you think of it! Let's see what age 25 has in store for me :)
p.s. it may have taken me a full month to make this post but it's been a great way to test some new, fancier formatting and design before sharing that this website would be active again! desktop readers, hover over pictures for captions! mobile readers... i tried my best, i hope this looks okay too.
