An approaching storm

Last night, after learning that we would have to return to port and wait for repairs to continue, I suddenly found myself with lots of extra time on my hands. I went up to Nautilus' top deck, affectionately called the "monkey deck," and spent the better part of an hour watching a storm roll over the island and out over the bay and towards the ship.

The sun was setting on the other side of the ship as I watched and it lit up the clouds with the most amazing colors. We had a wide enough view of the horizon to see the rain coming down in other places in the distance while we were still dry. The mountain of Guam slowly disappeared behind the oncoming wall of rain.

When the dark storm clouds finally reached over our heads, I could feel the change in the atmosphere and smell the storm in the air. The feeling of anticipation as the wind suddenly picked up was exhilarating! It made me feel like I understood why the Greeks made Zeus the King of Gods -- it's hard to imagine anything more spectacular and breathtaking than this.

I don't often slow down enough to really take in the world like this so it was a very special moment for me.
